HOTRHF
HEART OF TEXAS REGIONAL HISTORY FAIR
TO: All History and Social Studies Teachers
FROM: Heart of Texas Regional History Fair
DATE: August 20, 2012
SUBJ: An invitation to attend the H.O.T. Regional History Fair February 7th and 8th, 2013
We are writing to ask you to consider involving your History classes in the 2013 Heart of Texas Regional History Fair (HOTRHF). The Board of Trustees and staff members of the HOTRHF know full well how excited students can be about researching a yearly theme, and sharing it with readers, viewers, and judges at the regional, state, and national History Day competitions. Their interests and enthusiasm show in their displays and in their performances and documentary projects, and it flows from the essays they write and the web sites they design. Students learn valuable skills that help prepare them for exciting careers and which also help them appreciate their rich heritage.
The fair is open to grades 5 – 12. Participation in the contest is a culmination of a series of activities that are designed to help students learn more about history using the content and methods of social science, language, literature, and the arts. Students make history meaningful and relevant as they research and prepare imaginative exhibit projects, historical papers, original performances, web sites and documentary presentations.
Students at the HOTRHF are recognized for their achievements in a variety of ways beyond traditional first, second, and third place finishes. Special Awards, sponsored by contributing organizations and businesses throughout the region include plaques, scholarships, cash, bonds, books, and gift certificates. From this fair, students have the opportunity to go on to the State History Fair held in Austin and the National History Day in Maryland.
